This calming, nurturing, and soothing class is great to add to your self-care routine. Practice breathing exercises to calm the nervous system and help to bring you into balance. Next is a body scan meditation where we direct the awareness throughout the body with the intention to bring you into a deep meditative state. Ending with a 20 minute crystal sound bowl savasana. It's just what it sounds like. Crystal sound bowls are played during the 20-minute savasana.
Wear comfortable clothes. We work from a yoga mat, but we don't do any actual physical yoga poses. We move the body a little at the beginning of class to help you release tension and settle into a comfortable seat for the pranayama. After the pranayama, you will move onto your back for the body scan meditation. We might take a few wiggles and stretches when we get on the floor, again just to help the body relax and settle in.
(All movement is optional.)
After the body scan meditation, we smoothly transition into savasana. There are bolsters and blankets available if you prefer a restorative savasana (on props).
Pranayama is the practice of breath control in yoga, derived from the Sanskrit words prana (life force or energy) and ayama (extension or control). It involves various techniques that regulate the breath, which in turn helps to balance the mind, body, and spirit. By focusing on the breath and its rhythm, pranayama practices cultivate awareness, reduce stress, and improve physical health.
Through intentional breathwork, pranayama enhances oxygen flow, supports the nervous system, and promotes clarity of thought. It is a powerful tool for calming the mind, increasing energy, and grounding the body. In our classes, you will explore different pranayama techniques designed to help you connect more deeply with your breath and find greater peace and balance in your daily life.
